Websense completes SurfControl acquisition

Websense has completed the acquisition of UK-based web-filtering competitor SurfControl in a deal worth around ÂŁ204 million, according to the US company. The acquisition sees Websense double its customer base to more than 50,000 organisations worldwide.

Websense believes the deal will complete its set of content protection products, including email and spam filtering, web security and information leak prevention.
The web security company also said that it plans to develop SurfControl’s on-demand platform to be used in its hosted content protection services.
In 2006, Websense bought Port Authority for ÂŁ44 million in a move to boost its profile in the data leakage and prevention market.
