Mobile working is grave concern for IT managers

More than three quarters of IT managers are concerned about the security risks posed by remote working, new figures suggest. A study by networking company ZyXEL found that IT managers are worried about the possibility of hackers exploiting remote working practices to access the company network.

“Today we have technologies that allow us to connect from home and abroad with much greater ease than was previously possible,” said James Walker, security product manager at ZyXEL, in a statement. “However, if this connection isn’t secured, a hacker can wreak havoc within a corporate network without ever stepping inside the building”.
The research shows that 87 per cent of remote workers use their home computers to access company data. Of these, 90 per cent admit that they are responsible for maintaining the security on their PCs.
The figures suggest that these concerns are only going to get worse. More than half of respondents believe remote working enhances productivity and achieves a better work/life balance. What’s more, 46 per cent said that although they cannot work remotely at present, they would like to in future.
The survey questioned 200 IT managers and 1300 employees in businesses across the UK.
